Holy moly that is frustrating.
It frustrated me so much I spent a not inconsiderable time working out how to fix the problem.
Clearly, Microsoft didn’t quite have the budget available to make a powerpoint presentation that didn’t split words in half, so I found a workaround for the poor chaps and chappesses to save your stress.
Here it is.

Step By Step “How To Stop Powerpoint Breaking Words In Half / Splitting Words In Half” Guide
1. Save your presentation.
2. Close Powerpoint
3. Type into your search bar next to the Microsoft Logo bottom left of your screen “Language Preferences”.
4. Click “Add a Language”, select Japanese, save and then close.
5. Open your presentation again (don’t worry that it says Close Office, I didn’t and it still worked).
6. Select some of the text/copy on your page that is currently splitting in half.
7. From the Home Tab, click the icon shown below with the red hand drawn circle around it and select “Line Spacing”.
8. Then select Asian Typography and DESELECT “Allow Latin text to wrap in the middle of a word” and voila – you are good to go!
